About CALICO

CALICO, the Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium is an international professional organization that serves a membership involved in both education and technology. CALICO has an emphasis on language teaching and learning but reaches out to all areas that employ the languages of the world to instruct and to learn. CALICO is a recognized international clearinghouse and leader in computer assisted learning and instruction. It is a premier global association dedicated to computer-assisted language learning (CALL).

CALICO began mainly as a group of people interested in using and producing technology-based materials for language teaching. After 25 years of growth and experience, CALICO now includes foreign language educators, programmers, technicians, web page designers, CALL developers, CALL practitioners, novice CALL users, second language acquisition researchers–anyone interested in exploring the use of technology for foreign language teaching and learning.

The CALICO Book Series produces an annual volume focusing on current themes in the profession. Recent titles include CALL in Limited ContextsThe Next Generation: Social Networking and Online Collaboration in Foreign Language Learning, and Opening Doors through Distance Language Education: Principles, Perspectives, and Practices. The CALICO Book Series responds to the information needs of language teachers, learners, and others who use educational technologies.

CALICO also provides a gateway to sister organizations such as EUROCALLIALLT, and WorldCALLand serves as a portal to other organizations’ activities such as the annual meeting of ACTFL.
