Discord Discussion Board (8.30.2022)

We have created a Discord Discussion Board for the CALICO Gaming SIG. Here we will discuss issues related to gaming and language learning, including ideas for the classroom, upcoming conferences, and highlight some recent publications. Please feel free to join the discussion using the following link: https://discord.gg/nVeZw8JqHq.

Google Groups

The CALICO gaming SIG maintains a discussion list on Google Groups, which is intended to stimulate activity of the SIG between annual CALICO conferences.

The group is private, but anyone can join. Upon subscription, you will be asked to describe your (research) interest in games for language learning. Click here to join.

To keep discussion on this list productive, please be mindful of the following rules. You agree to these rules when you subscribe to the list.

RULES

The mailing list is operated and managed by the chair(s) of the CALICO gaming SIG. The list managers reserve the right to remove subscribers and/or refuse subscription at any time without warning or explanation. We would very much prefer not to exercise this right and will not need to if subscribers comply with the list rules. In subscribing to this mailing list and remaining subscribed to it, you are agreeing to adhere to these rules:

Diverse opinions are welcome. We welcome people from a wide variety of professional, disciplinary, methodological, and national traditions, yet all interested in L2 learning and technology. List participants are expected to respect these differences as everyone in the group is a colleague. We ask that you maintain a tone of civility and use good judgment in your posts: disagreements are to be expected, but blatant rudeness, personal attacks, lack of respect, and monopolization of the list to further one’s own agenda are not expected nor will they be tolerated.

Anonymous subscriptions and posts are not allowed. In order to help maintain the list as a valuable professional resource for everyone, you must identify yourself by your real full name when you subscribe and when you post to the list, and you should be prepared to verify your identity upon request. This will normally occur upon subscription.

No purely commercial activity. This mailing list is for sharing and discussing academic and industry research. Promotions of research publications, job announcements for research positions, and RFPs for research projects are fine. Beyond that, please, no job offers, advertisements of your service or product, or similar.

Respect privacy. You must reply to private email privately, and you may not forward personal email to the mailing list without the author’s permission. In forwarding email from the mailing list to others or redistributing it publicly, be mindful of its intended audience: Would you as an author of that mail be happy to see it forwarded (e.g. fowarding CFPs is fine, personal statements not so much)? When in doubt, ask first.

Stay on-topic. Keep in mind that anything you send to the list automatically goes to all subscribers so please keep posts on-topic for the list.

PRIVACY

Remember when posting to the list that your words will be available to everyone subscribed to the list via email and in an archive. This list and its archive are not accessible to persons not subscribed to the list. However, messages sent via email can easily be reproduced and circulated beyond their originally intended audience, and neither the list manager nor the server’s host are responsible for consequences arising from list messages being re-distributed.

DISCLAIMER

Unless otherwise indicated, opinions expressed in messages on the mailing list are those of the authors. This is an unmoderated list.
