Mission Statement

The Language Teaching and Learning Technologies (LTLT)  SIG supports and studies all aspects of the design, development, evaluation, selection, and implementation of technologies to support language instruction and learning projects. Our focus includes (but is not limited to) small scale or curriculum-wide applications, standalone or networked modules, individual or corporate efforts, authoring systems, or learning management systems. Members collaborate and share their ideas, questions, and solutions. The SIG encourages presentations and articles on LTLT issues and organizes a workshop or panel discussion on relevant topics at the CALICO conference.

Current Leadership:

Chair: Oksana Vorobel (ovorobel@bmcc.cuny.edu)

Co-Chair: Terry (Tuvi) Voorhees (tvoorhees@bmcc.cuny.edu)

Past Chair: Deniz Gokcora (sgokcora@bmcc.cuny.edu)

New Name:

On 5/21/11, the membership of the SIG unanimously accepted the following new name and mission statement for the Courseware SIG.

Language Teaching and Learning Technologies SIG (LTLT, or LT-squared)

(We like this name because it gets at teaching AND learning, and invites those who are not software developers in the strict sense to become active in the SIG. The name also does not directly address any platform or delivery device, and so therefore does not leave any out.)

CALICO 2013:

LTLT Panel: Providing Authentic Input in Online/Blended Learning

Thursday, May 23, 2013 2:45pm Keoni Room Imin Center

Phil Hubbard Stanford University
Michael Bush Brigham Young University

Lathrop P. Johnson Ball State University

While much of the logistics of online teaching involves course management issues such as the interface between the learners and the providing of feedback, another important issue is the way in which the students receive and interact with examples of the target language. This panel, organized by the Language Teaching and Learning Technologies SIG, will explore optimal ways of providing video and reading input in ways that are pedagogically sound and technologically appropriate.

* If your presentation or other presentations are highly related to the mission of our SIG, please feel free to email the SIG chair and I can add it here.
